Pinaaaresto ng isang mambabatas sa mga awtorida ang mga mapapatunayang nagtatago at nagmamanipula sa presyo ng mga gamot para sa kumakalat na COVID-19 symptoms dulot ng Omicron virus.
Ayon kay Quezon City Rep. Precious Hipolito Castelo, maraming batas, at regulasyon at maging local ordinances ang mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ang hoarding at price manipulation ng mga gamot at iba pang mahahalagang produkto lalo na sa panahon ng kalamidad.
Giit ng kongresista, dapat na magtulungan ang Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), at local government units (LGUs).
“The concerned authorities should enforce these to protect the interest and welfare of our people, especially the poor. Hoarding denies the poor access to essential products like medicines and increases the prices of these commodities,” sabi ni Castelo.
Aniya, mahalaga ang tungkulin ng mga LGUs dahil sa may karapatan itong bawiin o suspendehin ang business permits ng isang establisimiyento na mapapatunayang sangkot sa hoarding o nagmamanipula sa presyo ng mga produkto.
“The best antidote to hoarding and price manipulation is sufficient supply,” aniya pa.
Sinabi pa ni Castelo na una nang tiniyak ng DTI na sapat ang supply ng paracetamol at iba pang gamot para sa Covid-19 symptoms.
Ayon kay DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez, inirekomenda nito sa mga manufacturers ng paracetamol at flu medicines na huwag maglagay ng cap sa pagbili ng gamot dahil sa kakapusan ng supply nito sa Metro Manila at karatig lalawigan.
“The manufacturer suggested yesterday that there is no need to put a cap because they can supply and the drugstores would be able to put their quantity limits when they detect (an) unnecessary bulk purchase,” sabi ni Lopez.
