Hinamon ni Senador Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan ang mga social media platforms at online shopping sites na manguna sa paglaban sa disinformation at fake news na nagiging talamak ngayong panahon ng pandemya.
Sa pagpapatuloy ng Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes na pinamumunuan ni Pangilinan, inaasahan nito na magsasabi ng katotohanan ang mga inimbitahang online shopping sites tulad ng Lazada.
“Against the backdrop of an upcoming election and the continuing pandemic, an avalanche of false information can flow freely or spread like wildfire with the aid of digital platforms. Although disinformation cannot be stopped in one sweep, it can be countered and managed one click at a time, with all sectors working together,” sabi nito.
“These falsehoods on social media create a breeding ground for uncertainty, which in turn fuels skepticism and distrust, and eventually, chaos and violence,” dagdag nito.
Umaasa aniya ito na magsasabi ng katotohanan ang mga social media platforms, advertisers, online shopping sites, media at concerned sectors para makatulong sa paglaban sa mga fake news.
Sinabi pa ni Pangilinan na dapat na magpatuloy ang online education sa mga netizens upang makilala ang mga misinformation.
“Social media sites should go beyond the clickbait and go for trustworthiness and accuracy. This way, we can turn the tide on disinformation and fake news,” ayon pa kay Pangilinan.
