Umapela sa Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) ang isang kongresista na tulungan ang mga pamilya ng 14 na Filipino seafarers na kasalukuyang nakakulong sa bansang France.
“With the detained Filipino seafarers not earning income, the economic condition of their families here in the Philippines is gravely affected as no more money is being remitted to provide for their needs,” ayon kay Marino party list Rep. Sandro Gonzalez sa sulat na ipinadala nito kay OWWA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac na may petsang Enero 18, 2022.
Paliwanag ng kongresista, masalimuot ang sitwasyon ng nasabing mga Pinoy seafarers dahil sa ang employment contracts ng mga ito ay tuluyan nang terminated ng employers nitong Columbia Ship Management.
“In this connection, may we appeal for your compassion and extend assistance, financial or otherwise, to their families,” sabi ni Gonzalez.
Nabatid na ang 14 Filipino crew members ng MV Trudy ay kasalukuyang nakakulong sa walong magkakahiwalay na detention facilities sa France kaugnay ng alegasyong sangkot sa drug smuggling ang nasabing barko.
Sa kasalukuyan, nagtutulungan na ang Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Philippine Overseas Labor Office- Madrid, Philippine Embassy in Paris, at OWWA para masusing bantayan ang kondisyon ng mga Pinoy seafarers at may abogado nang inilaan sa mga ito.
