PDP Laban adopts Inday Sara as VP bet

PDP Laban  has adopted Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as the party’s official vice presidential candidate for the May 2022 elections.

President Rodrigo Duterte’s party, however, remains undecided which candidate it will support for president.

“The decision to adopt Mayor Sara has been made by the PDP Laban National Executive Committee based on her credentials, advocacies, and vision for our Nation,” PDP Laban’s announcement read.

PDP Laban president and Energy secretary Alfonso Cusi said the ruling party is already finalizing its alliance agreement with Lakas-CMD, which Duterte-Carpio serves as chairperson.

“The party is committed to support her candidacy in the coming elections,” the party said.

The party, however, has no presidential candidate with less than a month to go before the campaign period starts on February 8.

“We have not made any decision about It. We are having evaluation as to who among the candidates would best continue the programs the administration has started,” Cusi said.

In choosing its standard-bearer, Cusi said the party is still “evaluating who among the candidates would best continue the programs the (Duterte) administration has started.”

The Energy chief said the party will announce its presidential bet before the official campaign period starts.

Based on Comelec’s Calendar of Activities, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will begin on 8 February and will end on 7 May 2022.

Duterte-Carpio has yet to comment on PDP Laban’s endorsement for her vice presidential bid.

Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is Duterte-Carpio’s running mate for the upcoming polls.

In November last year, Duterte-Carpio revealed that she asked PDP Laban to support her tandem with Marcos, but the party rejected to do so.
