Labor groups from different industries, the All Workers Alliance Trade Unions (AWATU) and the Confederation of Labor and Allied Social Services (CLASS) throws their support to the candidacy of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. and his running-mate Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Affiliated with the country’s biggest labor group the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), the CLASS and AWATU are labor federations with local unionized rank-and-file workers in different enterprise in manufacturing, services and agro-business industries nationwide.
“The AWATU labor federation officials and members are giving our support to presidential and vice presidential candidates Ferdinand” Bongbong” Marcos and Sara Duterte in the forthcoming national elections in May this year,” said Tem Dejon, AWATU national president.
“Majority of our members saw in Bongbong and Sara the qualities needed to lead our country out of the pandemic economic and health crises the COVID-19 had brought upon us. We believe they possess the needed leadership track record and strenght of character to rally, inspire and unite most of our people out of the current crises,” Dejon said.
Moreover, CLASS-TUCP president Concepcion “Chit” Dodd said Marcos and Duterte-Carpio have a clear grasp of issues both in the national and local levels.
“The ordinary workers saw in former Senator Marcos and Mayor Sara they understand the dire circumstances of workers and their families and knows how to get things done to address them. These are the primary reasons why both Bongbong and Inday Sara resonates with our union members from all the other candidates, ” Dodd said.
CLASS and AWATU union members picked Marcos and Duterte-Carpio from among a list of 10 presidential candidates and 9 vice presidential bets who submitted their candidacy to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
