Pinamamadali ni House deputy speaker at Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) at sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na madaliin ang pagpapalabas ng P2.5 bilyong fuel subsidy para sa public transport sector.
Sa LTFRB public transport stakeholder’s meeting sa Cagayan de Oro City, ipinarating ni Rodriguez sa mga drivers na inilaan ng Kongreso ang nasabing pondo sa ilalim ng 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) o ang national budget.
“This year’s GAA provides for financial assistance/fuel vouchers to qualified public utility vehicle (PUV), taxi, tricycle, and full-time ride-hailing and delivery services drivers nationwide as identified and validated by the LTFRB,” sabi ng mambabatas.
“I call on the DOTr and LTFRB that this P2.5 billion subsidy be already given to our drivers as soon as possible. Just this year, there is a P10 increase in the prices of petroleum products,” dagdag pa nito.
Sa panig naman ni LTFRB Chairman Martin Delga lll, siniguro nito kay Rodriguez at sa Transport Cooperatives and Associations sa Region 10 na sa oras na ibinigay ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ang pondo ay agad-agad aniyang ipapamahagi nito sa mga public utility drivers sa buong bansa.
Umaasa naman si Rodriguez na gagawin ng DBM ang trabaho nito para mailabas na sa lalong madaling panahon ang pondo sa kadahilanang sa unang bahagi ng taon ginagawa itong ahensya.
Iginiit ni Rodriguez na malaking pahirap na ang dinaranas ng mga driver ng pampasaherong sasakyan dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng krudo na umabot na sa P20 kada litro mula noong nakalipas na taon at sa Covid-19 pandemic at ang pinakahuli ay ang tensyon sa pagitan ng Russia at Ukraine.
“When the cost of petroleum oil increases, it always follows that fares and prices of goods also go up, affecting our consumers. This is alarming for an economy like the Philippines, which is still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic,” babala pa ng kongresista.
