Nanawagan si Senador Sonny Angara sa Small Business Corporation (SBCorp) at sa Department of Tourism (DOT) na gamitin ang hindi nagamit na pondo mula sa Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) upang matulungan ang tourism industry sa muling pagbangon ng mga ito matapos ang dalawang taong pagkalugi.
Ayon kay Angara, sponsor ng Bayanihan 2, malaking halaga ng pondo ang inilaan para magamit na pantulong sa turismo bilang isa sa mga sektor na tinamaan ng COVID-19 pandemic simula noong Marso ng 2020.
Base sa datos ng SBCorp, aabot sa kabuuang P4B ang inilaan sa ilalim ng B2 para sa pagbibigay ng low low-interest loans sa tourism sector.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng SBCorp na tanging P278 milyon halaga ng pautang sa sektor ng turismo ang inaprubahan noong Pebrero 28, 2022 habang ang isa pang P524 milyon ay patuloy na ipinoproseso.
“A lot of the tourism industry players were hesitant to avail of loans and this was understandable because many did not want to resume operations while quarantine classifications were constantly changing,” sabi ni Angara.
“But now that more people are vaccinated and the number of COVID cases has gone down, the country has opened its doors to both foreign and domestic tourism. The barely utilized loan facility will help jumpstart the operations of the tourism players in anticipation of the influx of arrivals,” dagdag pa ni Angara, na chairman ng Senate Committee on Finance.
Una nang niluwagan ng Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases ang panuntunan nito kaugnay ng pagdating ng mga dayuhan sa bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagpayag makapasok sa Pilipinas kahit hindi pa bakunado.
Sinabi pa ni Angara na sa ilalim ng B2, na nagtapos noong Hunyo 30, 2021, aabot sa kabuuang P10 bilyon ang inilaan sa SBCorp capital infusion para sa pagbibigay ng mababang interest sa pautang sa mga micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) at sa tourism sector.
Sa P10B na inilaan ng Kongreso sa SBCorp, tanging P8.08B lamang ang inilabas ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) kung saan P7.93B ay para sa loan program sa MSMEs at sa tourism sector.
Sinabi naman ng SBCorp na ang kabuuang P3.93B pautang sa MSMEs ay nagamit.
“The revival of the tourism sector after a two-year slump will go a long way in uplifting the lives of its workers, restoring the revenue streams of the local government units and reviving the economy as a whole. We encourage the SBCorp and the DOT to reach out to the operators who need assistance and to streamline the process in accepting and approving loans so that they can resume normal operations at the soonest possible time,” sabi pa ni Angara.
