Pinatitiyak ni Senador Grace Poe sa mga water concessionaires at iba pang mga ahensya ng gobyerno na doblehin ang kanilang pagtutulungan upang mabawasan ang epekto ng tagtuyot dahil sa kakulangan ng sapat ang suplay ng tubig ngayong dry season.
“We need all hands on deck to ably manage the water requirements of our consumers especially in the face of another possible virus surge. Complacency certainly has no place in these back-to-back threats,” sabi ni Poe.
Tugon ito ng senador sa pahayag ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) na patuloy ang pagbaba ng lebel ng Angat Dam dahil sa kakulangan ng tubgi-ulan at nagbabantang mawalan o magkulang ang supply ng tubig sa mga resident eng National Capital Region (NCR) at iba pang lugar sa bansa.
Aniya, ang Angat Dam na matatagpuan sa Norzagaray, Bulacan ay nagsu-supply ng 90 porsiyento ng pangangailangan ng residente ng Metro Manila at pangunahing pinagkukunan din ng irigasyon ng mga magsasaka sa Bulacan at Pampanga.
“We expect our water concessionaires to deliver on their commitments under their renewed franchise and revised concession agreement, and complete the projects necessary to have safe and reliable water on the taps,” ayon sa chairperson ng Senate public services.
Sa inilabas na Resolution No. 2022-02-CA ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSSRO), pinatawan na multang P63,973,362 laban sa Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) at inatasan na magbigay ng rebates sa mga naapektuhang residente ng west zone dahil sa madalas na water service interruptions mula Disyembre 2021 hanggang Pebrero 2022.
Nag-abiso na rin ang ibang mga water suppliers ng rotational water interruptions para masuplayan ng tubig ang lahat ng kanilang mga kustomer.
Paalala ng senadora, umaasa silang gagampanan ng mga water concessionaires ang sinumpaan nitong tungkulin bilang bahagi ng pagre-renew ng kanilang prangkisa.
Kasama rito ang sapat na suplay ng tubig, at ang pagpo-provide ng ligtas, malinis, at maaasahan na tubig sa bawat gripo ng mga Pilipino.
Una nang sinabi ng Maynilad na magpapatupad muli ito ng rotational water service interruptions upang lahat ay mabigyan ng tubig.
“The dry season comes year in and year out. It shouldn’t be an outright excuse for unduly prolonging water service interruptions when definitely much can still be done. It would be a disservice to fail our people in their most basic need at this time of struggle to recover from the pandemic,” sabi pa ni Poe.
