Naharang ng mga operatiba ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang isang hinihinalang miyembro ng teroristang grupo na Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) na nagtangkang umalis ng bansa.
Kinilala ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente ang inarestong ASG member na si Omar Bin Harun, 52-anyos, na naharang noong Mayo 10 sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 na dumating sakay ng Philippine Airlines mula Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Sinabi ni Morente na bagama’t nagpakita ng Malaysian passport ang nasabing dayuhan ay nagduda itong illegal itong nakuha ang pasaporte nito.
“While his passport seems to be genuine, we believe he might have procured it through illegal means or by misrepresentation,” ani Morente.
Base sa intelligence sources ng BI, si Omar, na isang Filipino national ay sangkot sa 2001 Lamitan Siege na umokupa sa isang simbahan at ospital at hinostage ang isang pari, mga medical staff, at ilang pasyente.
Sinabi ni BI-NAIA Anti-Terrorist Group (ATG) Chief Bienvenido Castillo III na nakatanggap ito ng intelligence information na parating sa bansa si Omar kung kaya’t nakipag-ugnayan ito sa iba pang law enforcement agencies dahilan upang maaresto ito.
“Omar was also said to have links with the terrorist group ISIS. We were informed then that there was also a warrant for his arrest from the Philippine National Police Southern Police District,” sabi ni Castillo.
Nai-turnover na ng BI sa Philippine National Police (PNP) si Omar para sa kaukulang paghahain ng kaso laban dito.
Pinasamatan naman ni Morente ang mga law enforcement agencies sa pakikipagtulungan sa BI para madakio si Omar.
“Coordination amongst law enforcement agencies, both here and abroad, is necessary to curb terrorist activities that attempt to destroy the peace and order in our country. We will remain vigilant to ensure that these criminals are brought to justice,” sabi pa ni Morente.
