Inendorso ni House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco si House Majority Leader at Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez bilang susunod na Speaker ng Kamara sa 19th Congress.
Personal na binati at nangako si Velasco, sa ginanap na pagpupulong ng mga ito sa Makati City na susuportahan nito si Romualdez para maging lider ng Kamara sa susunod na Kongreso.
“I believe that his election as Speaker of the 19th Congress will ensure that the legislative agenda of the incoming administration will be pursued and completed. Majority Leader Romualdez has my support and friendship,” sabi ni Velasco.
Maliban kay Velasco, kasama rin sa pagpupulong sina dating Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo, incoming Party-list Foundation Coalition Inc. (PCFI) president at Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, senior Deputy Majority Leader at Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla at Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Alfredo “Pido” Garbin.
Pinasalamatan din ni Velasco si Romualdez sa malaking tulong nito sa Kamara sa 18th Congress.
“I would like to sincerely thank Majority Leader Martin Romualdez for being our steady partner and ally in the 18th Congress. His strong leadership and support as our Majority Leader was crucial to the passage of relevant and timely pandemic-response measures and the approval of important and key laws that will have immense impact to stir and sustain our economic growth and development as we continue to navigate to new normal. Under his watch, the House was able to carry on and carry out its mandate despite physical limitations due to the pandemic with the passage of priority legislative measures of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” paliwanag pa ni Velasco.
Sa panig naman ni Romualdez, nagpasalamat din ito kay Velasco sa tiwala at suporta.
“I am grateful for your support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Speaker Velasco,” ani Romualdez.
Nabatid na napag-usapan din ng dalawang lider ng Kamara ang gagawing official canvass para sa pagbilang sa boto ng President at Vice President.
Si Velasco, na kabilang sa administration party PDP-Laban, ang naghayag ng suporta kay Romualdez sa pamamagitan ng pangulo ng nasabing partido na si Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
Inihalimbawa ni Cusi ang track record ni Romualdez sa Duterte administration sa pamamagitan ng pagpasa sa mahahalagang panukalang batas tulad na lamang ng dalawang Bayanihan laws, coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Act, ang Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises Act, at ang pag-amiyenda sa Retail Trade Liberalization Act and the Public Service Act.
“His track record speaks for itself. He is indeed one of the most hard-working Members of Congress. We believe that Rep. Romualdez can bring the various political parties and blocs in the House of Representatives together to continue the legacy programs of the Duterte administration as well as shepherd in Congress the vision of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for a more progressive Philippines,” sabi ni Cusi.
