Inalmahan ng isang militanteng kongresista ang utos ng National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) sa lahat ng service providers na i-block ang website ng mga progresibong grupo tulad ng Save Our Schools Network, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), at ng independent media na Bulatlat at Pinoy Weekly na paglabag sa free speech at freedom of the press.
Giit ni Assistant Minority Leader at ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro hindi katanggap-tanggap ang inilabas na memorandum ng NTC base sa hiling ng National Security Council (NSC) na nagsabing ang naturang mga websites ay teroristang grupo.
“The order of the NTC from the request of the National Security Council to internet service providers to block websites of progressive organizations and independent media is red-tagging in the context of the implementation of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The National Security Council simply tagged these websites as terrorists without citing concrete evidence proving their claim,” paliwanag ng mambabatas.
“Red-tagging at the cost of stifling free speech and free press. Because the NSC, headed by National Security Advisor and Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) Vice Chairperson Hermogenes Esperon Jr. affiliates these independent media and progressive organizations to and are supporting so-called terrorists and terrorist organizations, they are censored and also tagged as terrorist organizations by the state,” dagdag nito.
Umalma si Castro na maging ang website ng Save Our Schools Network na organisasyon na sumusuporta sa Lumad schools at nagsusulong ng kalidad ng edukasyon ay hindi pinaligtas ng NSC na inakusahang teroristang grupo.
“Pati ba ang pagsusulong ng edukasyon para sa mga kapatid nating Lumad ay terorismo na rin? Pinasara na ng administrasyon ang lahat ng Lumad schools na itinayo ng mga Lumad mismo, pati ba naman ang website ng network ng mga organisasyon na tumutulong na ipahayag ang panawagan nila ay ipinasara na rin,” tanong pa ng mambabatas.
“Dahil sa ganitong gawain ng NSC at iba pang miyembrong ahensya at opisyal ng Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC), ano pa ang makakapigil sa kanila na gamitin ang parehong modus na censorship sa ibang media outlet tulat ng Rappler, Inquirer at ABS-CBN na dahil sa red-tagging ay maiuutos na iblock ang mga website ng mga legal at lehitimong organisasyon at media outlet?” dagdag pa nito.
