Iginiit ni Camarines Sur Rep. LRay Villafuerte sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) at Budget and Management (DBM) na magtulungan sa paghahanap ng pondo upang matuloy ang Libreng Sakay program na malaking tulong sa mga ordinaryong manggagawa.
Ayon sa kongresista, una nang sinabi ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong”Marcos sa unang araw ng panunungkulan nito na kailangang ituloy ang Libreng Sakay project hanggang sa pagtatapos ng taon.
“Carrying on with Libreng Sakay should top the concerns of both the DOTr and DBM, considering that one of the very first official acts of Mr. Marcos on his first full day as President last July 1 was for the DOTr to carry on with this program for the benefit of Metro Manila commuters,” sabi ni Villafuerte.
“Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista should exert his very best effort in making sure Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman is able to source or realign at least P1.4 billion in public funds to bankroll Libreng Sakay till the yearend, in keeping with President Marcos’ July 1 directive,” dagdag nito.
Paliwanag pa ng mambabatas, na ang nasabing programa ang magagawa sa ngayon ng gobyerno sa mga manggagawa sa Metro Manila sa gitna na rin ng patuloy na pagtaas na bilihin at ng produktong petrolyo.
“This is the very least that the new Administration can do for poor and low-income commuters in the NCR (National Capital region) at this time of a global oil shock that has jacked up headline inflation and prompted the government to increase public transport fares,” ani pa Villafuerte.
Tugon na rin ito ng kongresista sa pahayag ni Bautista na maghahanap ang DOTr ng karagdagang P1.4 bilyon dahil sa walang sapat na pondo ang ahensya ngayong 2022 para ipagpatuloy ang Libreng Sakay hanggang Disyembre.
Inaprubahan ni Pangulong Marcos noong Hulyo 1 ang rekomendasyon ni Bautista na palawigin pa ang libreng sakay program sa mga pampasaherong bus sa EDSA Carousel Busway hanggang Disyembre kasabay ng free rides sa Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) at Philippine National Railways (PNR) sa mga mag-aaral, at hanggang unang bahagi ng schoolyear 2022-2023 mula Agosto hanggang Nobyembre 4.
Apela rin ni Villafuerte sa pamahalaan na madaliin ang pagpapalabas ng inaprubahang P1,000 fuel subsidy sa mahigit sa 600,000 qualified tricycle driver-beneficiaries na nakatala sa Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Kasabay nito, muling umapela ang mambabatas sa DOTr na isama na rin ang mga senior citizens, persons with disability (PWDs) at solo parents sa mga benepisyaryo ng libreng sakay sa MRT, LRT at PNR.
