Pinatitiyak ng isang kongresista sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na maipapatupad ang regulasyon nito na ang mga school supplies items ay maituturing na pangunahing bilihin na napapailalim sa Price Act.
Ito ang sinabi ni Quezon City Rep. Ralph Tulfo sa pagsasabing maaaring gamitin ng DTI ang Price Act ngayon at gamitin ang kanilang kapangyarihan upang matiyak na ang presyo ng mga school supplies, uniporme at sapatos ay hindi sasamantalahin ng mga negosyante ngayong paparating ang demand nito lalo na at magbubukas na ang face-to-face classes.
“I am wary of probable high prices of school supplies, school uniforms, and shoes now that campuses will soon reopen for face-to-face classes. Tuwing tumataas po kasi ang demand para sa isang produkto, maaaring tumaas din ang presyo nito. At kung ngayon pa lang ay nakikita na ng DTI at mga LGUs na magmamahal ang presyo ng school supplies at uniforms, dapat na nilang agapan ito upang hindi mahirapan ang mga magulang at estudyante. I see the need to avert school supplies price hikes,” paliwanag ni Tulfo.
Umapela rin ang kongresista sa DTI, Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESD, at maging ang asosasyon ng mga eskuwelahan, guro, mag-aaral at non-teaching personnel na ang edukasyon ay hindi pabigat sa mga magulang.
“There is still time for schools to rethink tuition rates and school fees, as well as payment terms and payment modes. If school supplies prices increases and tuition hikes are not reasonably tempered, many students might postpone their return to school. They already lost two years to the pandemic. Let us not prolong the agony of students. Let compassion prevail over more suffering and profit motives,” ayon pa sa kongresista.
