“Our preference is for there to be a signing ceremony since HB 9459 is a significant piece of legislation because it doubles the amount of the social pension for indigent seniors and because it will have a significant impact on the daily lives of all the beneficiaries. But if a signing ceremony is not feasible, then simply letting the bill lapse into law would fine,” sabi ng kongresista.
“Unfortunately, there was not enough time for the proposed amendments to the Centenarians Act to get sent to the President. I will exert best efforts to get the refiled bill approved and reported out of committee in August, so it can be approved at second and third readings in September, and then sent to the Senate before the recess in October. This early, I will lobby with the Senate leadership so the bill can get sent to the President at the earliest in November or December,” dagdag pa nito.
Sinabi nito na ang Sangguniang Seniors bill ay magtatagal dahil inaasahan na hindi bababa sa dalawang komite ng Kongreso tulad ng special committee on Senior Citizen Affairs at ang Committee on Revision of Laws.
“Yes, it is patterned after the Sangguniang Kabataan. We want seniors’ concerns and participation at all the local government levels. We saw this need because of the significant progress on devolution. We want to make sure seniors are not forgotten in devolution,” giit ng mambabatas.
