Nanawagan si Leyte 4th district Rep. Richard Gomez sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) na payagan nang makapag-ensayo sa Rizal Memorial Stadium at Philippine Sports Complex ang mga miyembro ng national team na lalahok sa 32nd SEA Games sa susunod na taon.
“Rigorous training under the most optimal conditions must be undertaken for athletes who will be representing the country in the upcoming 32nd SEA Games in 2023 for them to realize their full potential and best performance,” sabi ni Gomez sa kanyang inihaing House Resolution No. 202.
Paliwanag ng kongresista, nang tumama ang coronavirus disease (COVID-19) sa bansa noong Marso 2020 at ang National Capital Region (NCR) ay nagpatupad ng locked down upang makontrol ang pagkalat ng nasabing virus, ang lahat ng sports training activities ay ipinagbawal din ng pamahalaan.
Kasabay nito, ginamit na quarantine facilities ang Rizal Memorial Stadium sa Manila City at ang Ultra Sports Complex sa Pasig City.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered the country’s way of life by prohibiting certain activities, which included halting and limiting the conduct of group trainings of Filipino athletes, whether collegiate, amateur or professional,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
Inalala pa ni Gomez nang maging host ang Ormoc City ng national fencing team at ang national modern pentathlon team sa loob ng dalawang taon sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic ay wala namang atleta ang nahawahan ng virus.
Paliwanag pa nito na mahalaga ang pagsasanay at pag-eehersisyo ng mga atleta para manatili ang maayos na kondisyon ng mga ito at upang makaiwas na tamaan ng virus ay kailangan lamang na sumunod sa health protocols.
“To make this possible PSC should ensure that all athletes who will be representing the Philippines in the 32nd SEA Games in 2023 are given access to and permission for training activities at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and the Ultra Sports Complex,’ sabi pa nito.
