Pinagtibay ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang isang resolusyon na nagpapahayag ng pakikiramay sa pamilya ni Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo na walang habas na pinagbabaril ng ilang armadong kalalakihan sa kanyang sariling tahanan sa Pamplona, Negros Oriental noong nakalipas na Sabado.
Sa House Resolution (HR) No. 837 na iniakda ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, at nina House Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino C. Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos, at Tinggog party-list Reps. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez at Jude A. Acidre, pinagtibay ito kasabay ng HR No. 815 na inihain ni Parañaque City Rep. Edwin Olivares.
“A decent man of action, Governor Roel Degamo was one of the rarest breeds in politics who accomplished almost all of his campaign promises and whose tireless efforts to extend the best quality of service to improve the lives of his people is beyond compare,” ayon sa resolusyon.
“The untimely demise of Governor Roel R. Degamo leaves a significant loss and sorrow in the hearts of his family and friends, and he will always be remembered as a hardworking and dedicated public servant whose life was devoted to the betterment of the people of Negros Oriental,” dagdag pa nito.
Ang resolusyon ay nagbigay ng maikling pagpupugay sa buhay ni Degamo, na naiwan ng kanyang asawa na si Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, at ang kanyang anak na si Carlo Degamo, isang board member ng Negros Oriental.
“Before entering politics, Governor Degamo worked as a mechanic and driver, and as a senior plant mechanic and electrical control operator at the National Power Corporation in the Province of Palawan … Destined to serve his fellow Negrenses, Governor Degamo started his political career when he served as a Member of the Sangguniang Bayan of the Municipality of Siaton,” nakapaloob pa sa resolusyon.
Si Degamo, na naging miyembro ng Sangguniang Panlalawigan at bise gobernador ng Negros Oriental bago manungkulan bilang pinakamataas na ehekutibo ng lokal na pamahalaan ng lalawigan.
“After devoting twenty-five years in public service, a decade of which as Chief Executive of the Province of Negros Oriental, Governor Roel Degamo made notable contributions and accomplishments through his various programs and projects implemented on health, education, infrastructure, environment and peace and order,” base pa sa ipinasang resolusyon na sinang-ayunan ng lahat ng kongresista.
“Governor Degamo also championed for clean energy, commitment to renewable energy sources and strong opposition to coal-fired power plants … strengthened the framework for peace and development, which includes implementing programs and projects that cater to the needs of the people in the conflict-affected areas,” dagdag pa dito.
