Kakapusan ng supply ng HIV medication ikinabahala ng senador

Nagpahayag ng seryosong pagkabahala si Senador Christopher “Bong” Go sa hindi matatag na supply ng antiretroviral na gamot sa apat na rehiyon ng bansa.

Giit ni Go, kailangan ang mabilis na pagkilos sa pagtugon sa napaulat na hindi matatag na supply ng gamot sa human immunodeficiency virusus (HIV) sa bansa.

Sinabi pa ng chairman ng Senate Committee on Health, na ang mga people living with HIV (PLHIV) sa rehiyon ng Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Bicol, at Central Visayas ay nasa “life-and-death situation,” ayon na rin sa advocacy group Network Plus Philippines bunsod ng kritikal na kakapusan ng ARV medications.

“Our fellow Filipinos should not be placed in such a dire predicament where they have to worry about the availability of their life-sustaining medication,” sabi ni Go.

“I am calling on the Department of Health and the Philippine National AIDS Council to act urgently and resolve this issue,” dagdag pa nito.

Ibinunyag ng Network Plus Philippines na ang mga pasyente ay tumatanggap lamang ng isang bote o mas kaunting mga gamot na ARV, na mas mababa sa karaniwang supply ng tatlong bote na katumbas ng tatlong buwang gamutan.

Ito umano ay humantong sa isang nakababahala na sitwasyon kung saan ang ilang PLHIV ay hinihiling na maghanda upang bumili ng kanilang sariling gamot dahil sa mababang antas ng stock.

“The government must ensure that adequate funding is provided for HIV medication. We need to re-evaluate our procurement processes, resolve the current shortage, and establish a more reliable supply chain to avoid such issues in the future,” suhestiyon pa ng senador.

Sinabi rin ni Go ang kahalagahan ng mga libreng treatment hubs na nagbibigay ng mga gamot sa mga may karamdaman.

“If these hubs run out of supply, patients are left with no choice but to shoulder the cost of the medication. This is simply too burdensome for most PLHIV, especially for those who are unemployed, including teenagers,” ayon pa kay Go.

“We need to ensure that these treatment hubs are fully equipped to support those in need,” ayon pa dito.
