Pinuri ni Senate President Pro-Tempore Loren Legarda sa pagkilala ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa climate change bilang isang mahalagang prayoridad ng bansa.
Ayon kay Legarda, isang United Nations Global champion for Resilience, dapat na makita ng lahat ng ahensya ng gobyerno na marching order ito ng Pangulo na ikonsidera ang mga pagpaplano, decision-making at pagpopondo sa klima.
“As we reflect on President Marcos Jr.’s second State-of-the-Nation-Address (SONA), I want to express my appreciation for his recognition of climate change as a pressing priority,” sabi ni Legarda.
“I have been advocating this for decades, so now that the President has declared that the economic agenda shall never be incompatible with its climate change agenda, we may finally be on the right path,” dagdag pa nito.
Sinabi pa ng Pangulo na ang pagbabago ng klima ay itinuturing na isang mahalagang pamantayan sa mga pambansang patakaran, pagpaplano, paggawa ng desisyon, at pagpapatupad ng mga programa.
Ayon pa sa senador, ang potensyal na pakinabang sa pagsang-ayon sa pro-environment policy ay mapapalawig sa trabaho at kabuhayan, at pagbubukas ng bansa sa green at blue economies.
Mismong ang Pangulo aniya ang nanawagan sa Kongreso na unahin ang pagpasa sa Blue Economy Bill at mga bagong buwis para sa sa mga single-use plastics.
“We now hope to see major changes in the way the Executive Department makes and executes their plans and programs in more climate resilient and ecological ways. The President’s focus in reducing single-use plastics is timely as the negotiations for a plastics treaty are concluding. It demonstrates a commitment to practical and effective measures to ensure a healthier and cleaner future for future generations,” ayon pa kay Legarda.
“It is refreshing to see the President prioritizing these initiatives and recognizing their potential to drive economic growth while preserving the environment,” dagdag pa nito.
