Sinisiguro ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na mapoproteksyunan ang karapatan ni Cagayan Gov. Manuel Mamba na boluntaryong sumuko sa Kamara de Representantes matapos itong i-cite in contempt ng dalawang komite ng Kamara.
Nagdesisyon ang House Committees on Public Accounts at Suffrage and Electoral Reforms na i-cite in contempt si Mamba dahil sa paulit-ulit nitong pagkabigo na dumalo sa pagdinig ng nasabing mga komite na iniimbestigahan ang iligal na paggamit umano ng pondo ng probinsya noong panahon ng kampanya para sa eleksyon noong 2022.
“Governor Mamba’s choice to voluntarily surrender is a commendable stride in safeguarding the integrity of our democratic institutions. It signifies his readiness to collaborate with the House’s proceedings and underscores a steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles of accountability and transparency that form the cornerstone of our democracy,” ani Speaker Romualdez.
Tiniyak din ni Romualdez na gagawa ng mga kaukulang hakbang ang Kamara upang masiguro na mapapangalagaan si Mamba habang nasa kustodiya.
“The House of Representatives is fully committed to adhering to all established legal procedures and safeguards throughout this process, ensuring fairness and due process,” giit ni lider ng Kamara.
Sa pagdinig noong Agosto 17, nagdesisyon ang nasabing mga komite na i-cite in contempt si Mamba kasama si Cagayan Provincial Information Officer Rogelio Sending matapos na hindi makapagbigay ng katanggap-tanggap na paliwanag kaugnay ng kanyang pagkabigo na dumalo sa mga naunang pagdinig.
