Kinuwestiyon ni Deputy Majority Leader at Iloilo First District Rep. Janette Garin ang pagtatalaga kay dating Special Adviser National Task Force Against COVID-19 na si Dr. Tony Leachon at iginiit niya na hindi ito eksperto sa kalulugan ng publiko.
Sa budget deliberations nitong Miyerkules, nabatid na walang Masteral o Doctorate degree si Leachon sa public health para maituring na eksperto sa larangan.
Binanggit din ni Garin ang pahayag ni Presidential Adviser on Peace Carlito Galvez Jr., kung saan sinabi nito na “skewed” at “malicious” ang mga datos na inilabas ni Leachon ukol sa mga bakuna.
Magugunitang unang itinalaga ng Department of Health (DOH) si Leachon bilang Special Adviser for Non-Communicable Diseases ng ahensya.
“Do you think its fair for the Department of Health to [to give] P100,000 to a person whose statements were always skewed and malicious?…I’m saying this because as a Secretary of Health, you have allies and colleagues with you whose tasks and functions will be affected,” tanong ni Garin kay DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
“You can hire him as your personal consultant but you cannot give him the platform of the Department of Health because that is a lot different,” dagdag ng House appropriations panel vice chairperson.
Sa halip na bigyan ng kompensasyon ang hindi eksperto, sinabi ni Garin na dapat itong ilaan sa mga manggagawa ng Medical Assistance Program.
“Ang laki-laki po ng medical assistance program. Napakaraming trabaho sa kanila… pero kulang na kulang po sila Secretary sa tao,” sabi ni Garin.
Sa pagtalakay sa pondo ng DOH, iminungkahi ng DOH ang P203.6 bilyong pondo para sa taong 2024.
