Pinasalamatan ni OFW party list Rep. Marissa “Del Mar” Magsino ang mga senador sa pagpasa sa huli at ikatlong pagbasa ng Magna Carta for Seafarers.
“As one of the principal authors of the Magna Carta for Seafarers in the House of Representatives, I thank our Senators for passing the counterpart measure, Senate Bill No. 2221, on 3rd Reading. This brings us closer to ensuring decent, just, and humane working conditions that our Filipino seafarers rightfully deserve,” sabi ni Magsino.
Pinasalamatan din ni Magsino si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa ipinakitang suporta sa nasabing panukala sa pamamagitan ng pagsesertipika nito.
“I also extend my heartfelt thanks to President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. for lending his support to the bill by certifying it as an urgent measure thereby pushing for the swift enactment of this this crucial legislation,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
“In the coming weeks, we look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions during the bicameral conference committee. This collaborative effort between the two chambers will provide an opportunity to further refine and strengthen the provisions of the Magna Carta for Seafarers, ensuring that it serves the best interests of our Filipino seafarers,” dagdag ni Magsino.
Aniya, ang puwersang nagtutulak dito sa pagsusulong ng pag-apruba nito ay ang pagnanais na itaguyod ang kapakanan ng mga Pilipinong marino sa pamamagitan ng isang batas na naglalaman ng kanilang mga karapatan, tungkulin, kondisyon ng trabaho, at mga karapatan, kabilang ang mga tungkulin at responsibilidad ng mga may-ari ng barko at mga manning agencies at kinauukulang ahensya ng pamahalaan.
“This proposal has been discussed then put off, brought back to life then shelved again for the past decades. But if we truly accord our Filipino seafarers the recognition and protection they deserve, then the enactment of the Magna Carta for Seafarers is imperative,” pahayag pa ni Magsino.
