Hinamon ng isang kongresista ang radio-TV network na pag-aari ni Pastor Apollo Quiboloy na patunayan na tama ang ulat nito na gumastos si Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez ng P1.8B sa mga pagbiyahe nito sa labas ng bansa.
Sinabi ni Quezon Rep. David Suarez na nais nitong kumilos ang House committee on Legislative Franchises na pinamumunuan ni Parañaque Rep. Gus Tambunting na imbitahan hindi lamang ang broadcaster na nag-claim sa Shonshine Media Network International (SMNI) kundi ang mismong may-ari ng franchise holder ng broadcasting station.
“I think it would be [a] prudent decision of the committee to invite the host. And I even, impose this challenge on them. Name your source, kasi ako, may dokumento akong hawak na nagsasabi kung magkano talaga ang ginastos ng House at ng Speaker sa kanilang travel. Dun sa sinasabi niyo P1.8 billion, kaya gusto kong malaman kung saan nanggaling,” pahayag pa ni Suarez.
“O ‘yun po ba ay numero lang na hinugot ninyo sa buwan at binanggit sa telebisyon? Dahil base sa mga dokumento at papeles na hawak po namin, hindi po ‘yun ang katotohanan,” giit nito.
Ipinunto ni Suarez na gusto nitong patunayan ng SMNI at ng broadcaster nito ang kanilang claim bago nito suriin ang hawak nitong mga dokumento.
“Show me your documents. Show me your data. Inform us who your source is and I will compare it to mine and there we will find out what the real truth is with regard to this issue,” aniya.
Binigyang-diin ng kongresista na parehong may pananagutan ang Quiboloy network at ang program host nito sa claim sa travel fund.
“Well, I feel that the network and the host are both accountable. Kasi unang-una, pinalabas po ito sa show nila. Pangalawa, as journalists, responsable sila, dapat bago nila maglabas ng kung anomang news article o news report, it has to be validated. I mean I’m sure all of you members of media do the same. Especially when it comes to figures and data we consider to be of national concern,” sabi ni Suarez.
Noong Martes, nagbigay ng privilege speech si Suarez na humihiling sa Committee on Legislative Franchises na magtanong sa mga alegasyon ng budget sa paglalakbay ng SMNI host, na sinabi nitong siya mismo ang nakarinig.
“I immediately went to the finance department of the House of Representatives to find out if this is true and there is no truth to the P1.8 billion pesos. It is fake news and it is an absurd lie that they are spreading,” ayon pa dito.
“I felt it incumbent upon myself, I need to clarify this issue on the floor because it affects and attacks the very integrity and dignity of the House of Representatives,” sabi nito.
“So doon po nanggaling “yun and of course bilang isang mambabatas, tungkulin din po natin na siguraduhin na ‘yung mga lumalabas na balita, especially kung may kinalaman po ito sa House of Representatives, ay totoo,” giit ng mambabatas.
