Pinarangalan ng Senado si South Korean diplomat Ban Ki-moon, ang 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations General Assembly dahil sa naging kontribusyon nito sa buong mundo.
Sa Senate Resolution No. 929, na inihain ni Senate President Pro-tempore Loren Legarda, nagkakaisa ang mga senador na kilalanin ang magandang nagawa ni Ban dahil sa “outstanding global contributions” nito
“The Philippine Senate, with deep respect and administration, acknowledges the exceptional contributions of Mr. Ban Ki-moon in shaping the global landscape,” ayon sa resolusyon.
Nabatid na dumating sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 si Ban kasama ang asawa nito kung saan sinalubong ito ng Malacañang Protocol at ni South Korean Ambassador to Philippines Lee Sang-hwa.
Tinanggap si Ban ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. na nagpahayag ng suporta sa Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) na pinamumunuan ng UN official .
Si Ban ay dumating sa Pilipinas para sa Asian Development Bank’s Eminent Speakers’ Forum.
Taong 2013 noong Disyembre nang unang bumisita si Ban sa bansa para nagbigay ng tulong nang manalasa ang Super Typhoon Yolanda sa lalawigan ng Tacloban.
“The visionary leadership of the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations advocated and mobilized world leaders and parliaments for the adoption of various landmark projects, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (UNSDGs), highlighting the importance of collective action to address poverty, hunger, inequality, climate crisis, and other pressing issues facing humanity,” ayon pa sa resolusyon.
Sa 4 na pahinang pahayag ni Ban sa plenary session, nagpasalamat ito sa pagkilala ng Senado.
“I am deeply grateful for this esteemed honor, and very humbled by the unique opportunity afforded to me to deliver a few words. Indeed, it is incredibly meaningful for me to be here in Manila and be recognized by PS Resolution No. 929, which honors and commends the global contributions made during my tenure as the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations,” sabi ni Ban.
Nabatid pa na sa darating na Marso 3, 2024, araw ng Linggo ay ipagdiriwang ang ika-75 taong anibersaryo ng diplomatic relations sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng Republic of Korea.
