Pinuri ng mga mambabatas ang positibong resulta ng nakaraang byahe ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa Australia, kabilang na ang kanyang paglagda sa second protocol ng ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA), na inaasahang pakikinabangan ng mga micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sa Pilipinas.
Sa kanyang pahayag sa mga mamamahayag, sinabi ni House Committee on Agriculture and Food chairman at Quezon Rep. Wilfrido Mark Enverga, na malaki ang kanyang tiwala sa second protocol ng AANZFTA sa sektor ng agrikultura ng Pilipinas.
“I know there’s much to gain on the aspect of agriculture trade and, of course, technology trade. Marami silang (Australia) technology na gustong dalhin dito, and in fact they have started already funding some of the good programs here. So, I look forward to that, magandang prospect for the agriculture sector,” sabi nito.
Nauna nang nagpahayag si Marcos na ang second protocol sa AANZFTA ay magbebenepisyo sa MSMEs dahil “(it) facilitates their participation in international trade by improving their access to markets and participation in the global value chains, as well as promoting the use of e-commerce.”
Dinagdag naman ni 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Ramon Rodrigo Gutierrez na ang paglagda sa second protocol ng free trade agreement ay palatandaan na ang daloy ng globalisasyon ay nagpapatuloy pa rin, sa kabila ng mga kontrang pananaw ng ilang tao sa idinaos na pagtalakay sa Resolution of Both Houses No. 7, na nagmumungkahi ng Charter change sa ekonomiya.
“I would say that there’s still a trend to globalization and it (second protocol to the AANZFTA) just serves as proof, evidence that perhaps we are on the right track and that we should step-up to that challenge,” ayon kay Gutierrez.
Kinumpirma rin ni Enverga na ang kanilang motu proprio investigation sa umano’y hindi wastong disposisyon ng inimbak na bigas ng National Food Authority ay matutuloy sa Huwebes.
“This is again in aid of legislation. Siyempre ‘yung ating hinahangad dito is malaman nga po kung ano pa ba ang nagiging function ng NFA, ano ba kulang o ano ba, are they still relevant to the times, is it enough na bigyan sila ng power? Again, these are some of the questions that will be answered through this inquiry. Marami po tayong discovery and tamang-tama po kasi dahil nasasabay po ito doon sa mandatory review nung Rice Tariffication Law (RTL). So much learnings from this one that can contribute to the soon to be reviewed RTL,” aniya.
Sinabi rin ni Enverga na ang kaganapan sa media hinggil sa pagpasa ng panukalang Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, at iniulat na nagsalita na ang mga mambabatas sa kanilang mga counterparts sa Senado.
“We will be setting a date in the coming weeks. They were asking for next week to, at least, initially discuss yung pre-bicam doon sa disagreeing provisions. We’ll just set a date, so there is promise doon sa passage ng Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act,” ayon pa sa kanya.
