Tinitiyak ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na handa itong manguna sa imbestigasyon bilang tulong sa lumalawak na agwat sa pagitan ng farmgate at retail prices ng bigas at iba pang pangunahing bilihin sa pagbabalik ng sesyon sa Abril 29.
Ito ay matapos ang pagpupulong ni Romualdez at Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo kasama ang mga kinatawan ng mga producers, retailers at grocery stores kung saan itinanggi ng mga ito na gumawa ng anumang malaking pagbabago sa presyo ng bilihin.
“I would ask Chairman Mark Enverga of the Committee on Agriculture to immediately start the ball rolling for an investigation into the disconnect between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods,” sabi ni Romualdez.
“The discrepancy between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods is alarming and warrants immediate attention. We cannot ignore the plight of our farmers who are struggling to make ends meet, nor can we turn a blind eye to the burden placed on consumers,” dagdag pa ng lider ng Kamara.
Sa nakalipas na pagpupulong ipinaalam ni Jayson Cainglet, ng Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) kay Romualdez ang farmgate prices ng bigas, manok, baboy, at sibuyas ay nananatili sa loob ng tatlong buwan kung kaya’t wala dapat na pagtaas ng presyo.
Tiniyak ni Romualdez sa mga producers at retailers na titingnan ng Kamara ang pagkakaiba sa presyo sa pagpapatupad ng oversight function dahil nangangako rin itong magsasagawa ng masusing pagsusuri sa mga umiiral na batas upang maprotektahan ang interes ng parehong mga mamimili at producers at hadlangan ang profiteering.
“It is imperative that we conduct a comprehensive review of our laws to ensure that they effectively safeguard the interests of our farmers and consumers. We must take proactive measures to prevent profiteering and promote a fair and transparent trading environment,” pahayag pa ni Romualdez.
Apela pa nito sa lahat ng stakeholders, kabilang ang government agencies, industry representatives, at consumer advocacy groups, na aktibong makilahok sa imbestigasyon at makatulong sa pagbuo ng epektibong policy interventions.
Kabilang sa iba pa, sinabi ni Romualdez na ang pagsusuri ay naglalayong tukuyin at tugunan ang mga butas na maaaring mag-ambag sa profiteering at hindi patas na mga gawi sa pagpepresyo sa loob ng supply chain.
“At the end of the day, we want to make sure that all the stakeholders in whatever industry or sectors are viable, if they are in the business side of it, so that it becomes sustainable so that we can continue delivering basic goods and services to the consumers at sustainable, affordable prices,” paliwanag pa nito.
