Hinamon ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez ang mga opisyal at miyembro ng Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) na ipagpatuloy ang kanilang pinaigting na paglaban sa fake news, misinformation at disinformation lalo na sa social media.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na nakakabahala ito at sumisira sa tiwala ng publiko sa mga institusyon kasunod ng sirkulasyon ng isang binagong video gamit ang deepfake na teknolohiya, na naglalarawan kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. na nagtuturo sa militar na kumilos laban sa isang partikular na bansa.
Sa kanyang pagsasalita sa 51st-anniversary celebration ng KBP na may temang “Empowering People’s Voices and Aspirations” na ginanap sa Manila Golf Club sa Makati City, pinuri ni Romualdez ang mahigit limang dekada ng pambihirang serbisyo ng organisasyon sa bayan.
“We recognize its indispensable role in our democracy – as a reliable source of truth and a facilitator of informed public discourse … Your role as custodians of truth is imperative in countering misinformation and upholding the public trust,” sabi ni Romualdez, na lider ng mahigit sa 300 kongresista.
Noong Martes, binalaan ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) ang publiko tungkol sa manipuladong video ng Pangulo na kumakalat sa social media, na pinabulaanan ang pagiging tunay ng nilalaman nito.
“As you navigate these shifts – where liquid crystal displays have taken over cathode ray tubes, and digital content challenges traditional primetime – I urge you to remain steadfast,” sa pahayag ni Romualdez.
Sinabi ng pinuno ng Kamara mula sa Leyte na ang mga bumuo ng 1987 Constitution ay visionary sa pagkilala sa makapangyarihang papel ng komunikasyon sa pagbuo ng bansa, na binibigyan-diin ang pangangailangan ng mga broadcasters na itaguyod ang integridad at kalinawan ng impormasyon.
“I commend the KBP for maintaining rigorous standards of truthfulness and fairness. Your unwavering commitment to these values showcases the best of Filipino broadcasting and fortifies our democratic foundations,” sabi ni Romualdez.
“In this light, I appeal to the KBP to continue policing its ranks vigilantly. It is essential to actively weed out those who compromise on the ethics of truthful reporting and to set an example that resonates not just within our shores but across the global stage,” dagdag pa nito.
