NTC at mga telcos kinalampag vs text scams; ipatupad ang Sim Card Law

Nanawagan si House Committee on Information and Communications Technology chair at Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco sa National Telecommunication Commission (NTC) na hikayatin ang mga stakeholders sa paglaban sa problema ng text scam sa bansa.

Sinabi ni Tiangco na ang mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng SIM Registration Act ay maaaring maging game-changer sa paglaban sa mga text scams.

“One of the main reasons Speaker Romualdez advocated for the SIM Registration Act was to institutionalize regulatory mechanisms capable of effectively addressing fraudulent acts. With the strict implementation of this law, we can gain momentum in both preventing and apprehending individuals or organized syndicates involved in text scams,” sabi ni Tiangco.

Binigyan-diin din ng kongresista ang mahalagang papel ng pribadong sektor sa pagsuporta sa mga pagsisikap ng gobyerno na pigilan ang cybercrimes at ang pangangailangan ng mga ahensya tulad ng NTC na manguna sa mga collaborative programs.

“I always stress the importance of a proactive approach in effectively dealing with cybercrimes. It requires a multi-stakeholder effort, and by properly implementing the SIM Registration Act, we can gain headway in protecting Filipinos from fraudulent acts designed to obtain their personal information or, worse, use their identity for financial gain,” ani Tiangco.

“The NTC is currently meeting with telco companies and SIM distributors and retailers. They should include in their agenda a specific initiative that will foster close collaboration to curb these scams,” dagdag nito.

Una nang naglabas ng babala ang Social Security System (SSS) sa mga miyembro nito na mag-ingat sa mga phishing scam na nangyayari sa pamamagitan ng text messages.

Ang babala sa mga miyembro ng SSS ay dapat na maging maingat sa mga text message na humihiling sa kanila na i-click ang isang link para sa benefit claim, mag-expire na mga pagbabayad ng kontribusyon, o pagpaparehistro sa MySSS.

Ayon kay SSS Senior Vice President Norma Doctor, ang scam na ito ay naglalayong magnakaw ng personal na impormasyon, kabilang ang mga social security number at log-in credentials para sa MySSS accounts.
