Dr. Bernadette J. Madrid kinilala ni Sen. Revilla

Pinagtibay ng Senado ang Senate Resolution No. 173 na inihain ni Senador Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. na pinararangalan si Dr. Bernadette J. Madrid sa pagiging nag-iisang Pilipino at babae sa listahan ng 2022 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees, na itinuturing na ang Asian na katumbas ng Nobel Prize.

“We live in very uncertain times brought about by the pandemic. Now more than ever, we need leaders – model citizens who can give us hope. And we, especially our youth, can emulate. Precisely, Dr. Madrid is worthy of the commendation”, sabi ni Revilla.

Sinabi ng mambabatas na si Dr. Madrid ay kinikilala para sa kanyang pagbabagong gawain sa pagsasama ng proteksyon ng bata sa imprastraktura ng kalusugan sa bansa.

Si Dr. Madrid ay isang alumna ng University of the Philippines College of Medicine. Siya ay isang clinician, educator, isang researcher, at isang social mobilizer na nangunguna sa pagbibigay ng medikal, legal, at psychosocial na pangangalaga sa mga bata at kababaihan na biktima ng pang-aabuso.

“In recognizing Dr. Madrid, we are reminded, especially us public servants, to be steadfast, genuine and hopeful in our service to the people,” ayon pa kay Revilla.

Nabatid na ang Iloilo-born pediatrician at children’s rights protection crusader ang nagtatag ng Child Protection Network Foundation Inc., isang national network ng child protection units mula sa civil society, academe, at ng gobyerno noong 2002.

Binubuo ito ng 123 WCPUs sa 61 probinsya at 10 syudad sa bansa kung saan nakapaggsilbi na ito sa 119,965 kabataan at 30,912 kababaihan at may miyembrong 237 doktor, 199 social workers, at 85 na miyembro ng Philippine National Police.Si Dr. Madrid, na pinuno ng Philippine General Hospital Child Protection Unit (PGH-CPU), ay nagdisenyo ng programa at nakipag-ugnayan sa mga family courts, eskuwelahan, ospital, local government units, community organizations, at mga policymakers para maisulong ang proteksyon ng mga kabataan.

Kinilala rin ito sa iba’t ibang institusyon sa ginawa nitong pangangalaga sa children’s rights and protection kabilang ang Outstanding Pediatrician for 2021 ng Philippine Pediatric Society, Most Influential Filipina in the World 2019 ng Filipina Women’s Network, Outstanding Service Award on Child Protective Services 2012 ng National Children’s Advocacy Center, Most Outstanding Philippine Doctor 2004 ng Philippine Junior Chamber of Commerce kasama ang Department of Health at ng World Health Organization.
