Kinumpirma ni House Speaker Martin G. Romualdez na dinagdagan ng P77.5 bilyon ang inaprubahan ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso sa 2023 General Appropriations Bill (GAB) upang magamit sa pondo ng kalusugan, edukasyon, transportasyon at sa iba pa.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na sa period of amendments bago ang ratipikasyon ng 2023 GAB, nagkaisa ang mga kongresista na paglaanan ng pondo ang mga frontline agencies na humaharap sa kasalukuyang economic, health, energy at environmental crisis na nagpapahirap sa mga Filipino.
Kabilang dito ang P20.25 bilyon sa programa ng Department of Health (DOH) tulad ng Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients (P13B); allowances ng mga healthcare and non-healthcare workers at frontliners (P5-billion); dagdag na pondo sa Philippine Heart Center, Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute at Philippine Children’s Medical Center Health (P500-milyon bawat isa); 10 dialysis assistance centers sa buong bansa (P270 milyon o P27 milyon bawat isa at; Cancer Assistance Program (P250 millyon); P500 milyon para sa UP-PGH.
Samantala, P10 bilyon naman ang ibinigay sa Department of Education (DepEd) para sa pagpapatayo ng school building/classroom at special education programs na P581 milyon .
Habang P10 bilyon din ang inilaan sa Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) para magamit sa pagpapatayo ng water systems sa mga underserved upland barangays; P12.5 bilyon sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para sa Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (P5 bilyon); P5 bilyon para sa pag-upgrade ng senior citizens’ pension sa pamamagitan ng National Commission of Senior Citizens; at Sustainable Livelihood Program (P2.5 bilyon).
Pinuri ni Romualdez ang mga kongresista partikular si House Appropriations committee chairman Rep. Zaldy Co at senior vice chair Rep. Stella Quimbo dahil sa maayos na paghimay ng 2023 national budget.
“I’m pleased that the House-approved version of the General Appropriations Bill responds to the most urgent needs of Filipinos. We need to ensure that social services are sufficient for the greater good of our countrymen, especially those in dire need of basic social services to survive,” ayon pa sa House Speaker.
