Nagpalabas ng abiso ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa publiko kaugnay ng nagkalat na pekeng social media accounts sa Facebook na gumagamit ng larawan at impormasyon ng mga empleyado nito at gumagamit ng official seal ng BI.
Ang babala ay inilabas ni BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco na ilang scammers ang gumagamit ng social media accounts at nagkukunwang empleyado ng BI.
“These scammers reportedly disguise as immigration lawyers and legal officers. They create profiles using photos of our employees, their badges, and even the logo of the bureau,” ani Tansingco.
Iginiit pa ng opisyal na walang BI employees ang pinapayagan na makipagtransaksyon sa labas ng gusali ng BI facilities at lagpas sa office hours.
“There have been reports in the past where fake social media profiles have fueled scams and have gotten people duped out of money,” aniya.
Dismayado naman ni Tansingco sa dumaraming bilang ng mga pekeng fake social media pages.
“It is illegal to assume the identity of others, more so to demand money from anyone using the government’s name. The BI strongly warns the public against internet acquaintances. Remain keen to avoid being victimized,” aniya.
Nakipag-ugnayan na ang BI chief sa Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) upang imbestigahan ang nasabing kaso upang hindi maapektuhan ang operasyon ng BI.
