ORMOC City– Nagsilbing panauhing pandangal si Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa ika-75 charter day ng lungsod ng Ormoc na nagpahayag ng malaking pasasalamat sa mga Ormocanons sa suporta noong tumakbo ito noong nakalipas na 2022 national elections.
Ginawa ni Marcos ang pahayag sa gitna ng libu-libong mamamayan ng Ormoc kasama sina Leyte 4th district Rep. Richard Gomez at Mayor Lucy Torrez-Gomez kung saan mas lalong naging mas makulay ang selebrasyon ng pagkakatatag ng lungsod dahil sa pagdating ni Marcos.
Kasama rin na dumalo sa selebrasyon ng Ormoc City sina Department of Tourism Sec. Christina Garcia-Frasco; Ambassador
Marykay L. Carlson; Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio, Vice Mayor Carmelo Locsin Sr. at ang mga opisyal ng Ormoc Development Team.
Sa panig naman ni Gomez at asawa nitong si Mayor Lucy sinabi ng mga ito na sinuportahan ng mga Ormocanons ang kandidatura noon ni Marcos at nangakong ipagpapatuloy ang suporta ng mga ito sa pamumuno sa bansa.
“Mr. President, during your last visit to Ormoc City, the entire city rallied behind your candidacy. — What a joy it is for all of us today, to finally welcome you again as the 17th president of the Republic of the Philippines. Thank you for gracing this most momentous day in the history of this City of Beautiful People—the commemoration of the 75th Charter Day of Ormoc City,” sa pahayag ni Mayor Lucy.
Isa sa mga highlight ng isang linggong pagdiriwang ng lungsod ay ang paglalahad ng mga bagong marker ng lungsod na magpapaalala sa mga Pilipino kung paano nakatayo ang Ormoc City sa mas mataas na lugar sa gitna ng mga kalamidad at pandemiya sa mga nakaraang taon.
“Today, the City of Ormoc is standing on higher ground. I salute all the city mayors before me, most especially then-Mayor, now Congressman Richard Gomez, who set the stage of peace and prosperity, for the next chapter of successful socio-economic development of the city,” ayon sa alkalde.
Ipinagmalaki ni Torres-Gomez ang trivia na noong Oktubre 24, 1982 o eksaktong 40-taon nang bisitahin ni dating Pangulong Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. ang Leyte at ang Ormoc area para sa inagurasyon ng Leyte Industrial Estate.
Kabilang din sa ilang mahahalagang proyekto na sinimulan ng dating Pangulo ay ang Tongonan Geothermal Power plants na malaking tulong sa mga Ormocanons.
“Mr. President, with you at the helm, we are confident that our country will successfully weather through these global turbulent times. The City of Ormoc humbly takes your lead. Once again, thank you for honoring our city with your presence,” dagdag pa nito.
Sa panig naman ni Rep. Richard pinuri nito ang mga Ormocanon dahil sa pagiging masipag, masaya, at mapagmahal kung kaya’t napamahal na ito sa lungsod.

It was not until 1834 that Ormoc was founded as its own municipality, breaking off from its mother town of Palompon. Noong 1947, inihain ni dating Congressman Domingo Veloso ang House Bill 609, na naratipikahan bilang Republic Act No. 179 na may pamagat na “An Act Creating Ormoc City,” na ika-15 syudad sa Pilipinas at una sa Eastern Visayas.
