Speaker Romualdez kumpiyansa kay PBBM na makakaengganyo ng investment sa WEF

Kumpiyansa si House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., na matagumpay na maipapahayag ang mga natamo ng kanyang administrasyon at ipakilala ang sovereign wealth fund ng bansa at isulong ang Pilipinas bilang investment hub sa World Economic Forum (WEF) sa Davos, Switzerland.

Matatandaang naging instrumento si Romualdez sa pag-aayos ng pulong ni Pangulong Marcos at ng founder ng WEF na si Dr. Klauss Schwab sa sideline ng Association of Southeast Asean Nations (ASEAN) Summits na ginanap sa Cambodia kung saan inimbitahan ng huli ang Pangulo sa Davos meeting.

Sa pagpupulong sa Davos inaasahan ang mahigit 50 pinuno ng estado na makikilahok, kasama ang mga pandaigdigang lider ng negosyo, mga kilalang tao at kilalang social activists.

“In his previous participation in various global fora, President Marcos has displayed an excellent ability to articulate the interests of the Philippines as well as the significant gains achieved under his administration and the country’s direction for future growth,” sabi ng lider ng Kamara.

“I’m confident he would do the same in the WEF, particularly in introducing the Maharlika Wealth Fund to the global stage and in helping our local business leaders explore investment opportunities for the Philippines,” dagdag pa ni Romualdez, na kasama sa delegasyon ni Pangulong Marcos sa WEF.

Sa isang panayam sa kanyang paglipad patungong Switzerland, sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos sa mga miyembro ng media ng Pilipinas na ang WEF ay maghahatid ng isang mahusay na pagkakataon upang ilunsad ang Maharlika Investment Fund at isulong ang Pilipinas bilang isang investment hub.

“We’ll talk about the Philippines, what the situation is as an investment destination. Now, added to that, meron na tayong pwedeng pag-usapan, itong sovereign wealth fund,” ayon pa kay Marcos sa gagawin nitong pagpapakilala ang MIF sa WEF participants.

“So, sasabihin ko exactly what happened: that we are forming a sovereign wealth fund for big investments in the basic areas such as agriculture, energy, digitalization, and climate change,” dagdag pa nito.

Magugunitang inaprubahan ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso noong Disyembre 16, 2022 ang House Bill (HB) No. 6608, na lumikha sa Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) bill na may solidong suporta ng 90 porsiyento o 282 sa 312 miyembro ng Kamara.

Si Romualdez, na principal author ng panukala ay nagsabing kasama sa HB 6088 ang sapat na safeguard laban sa posibleng pabg-aabuso at katiwalian.

“The proposed sovereign wealth fund will help President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. keep the country on the high-growth path. We want to assure the public that the management of the fund will follow best practices and the principles of transparency and accountability,” aniya pa.
