Makakaasa na ang mga residente ng Talisay City, Negros Occidental partikular ang mga nakatira malapit sa Minulu-an River na makakaiwas na sa pagbaha kasunod ng pagsasaayos ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sa bagong flood protection structures sa nasabing lugar.
Ayon kay DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, ang Minuluan River ay nagsisilbing major water channel mula sa Talisay-Silay Basin na nagbabanta ng pagbaha sa naturang lugar.
At dahil sa natapos na ang nasabing flood control project ay maiiwasan na ang epekto ng flood water sa mga kabahayan at sa mga pananim.
Ang nasabing proyekto ay itinayo ng DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office na may pondong P34.2 milyon kung saan ang 743-lineal meter stone masonry structure sa magkabilang bahagi ng ilog ay mapoprotektahan ang iba pang bahagi sa ilog at matiyak ang pagsasaayos ng water flow.
Maliban sa mapoprotektahan ang buhay at kabuhayan ng mga residente ng Talisay City, ang proyekto magdudulot din ng economic activities dahilan sa ang Minulu-an River ay tumatahak sa kahabaan ng Bacolod Negros Occidental Economic Highway (BANOCEH) Project.
“While Minulu-an River contributes much to agricultural and economic activities of the locality, the sudden rise of water level during heavy rain causes danger to nearby communities, as observed in previous incidents where flooding affected hundreds of families in the area. With the new flood control structure, we hope that what happened in the past will no longer be experienced,” sabi ni Bueno.
