Rep. Teves hinarang sa pagdalo sa Senate hearing

Nagkakaisa ang mga senador na dumalo sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs na hindi pasalihin si suspended Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. kaugnay ng paglikida kay incumbent Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

Nabatid na bago sinimulan ang pagdinig ng nasabing komite, nagkaroon ng pagdadayalogo ang mga senador kung papayagan ng  mga ito si Teves na lumahok sa pagdinig kung saan sa huli ay nagdesisyon ang mga senador na hindi ito payagan.

Sinabi ni Senador Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, chairman ng komite na nagpadala ito ng imbitasyon kay Teves sa pamamagitan ng telepono kung saan hiniling ng una sa huli na lumahok sa gaganaping pagdinig sa Degamo assassination.

Aniya, nang makausap nito si Teves ay pumayag ito na dadalo sa imbestigasyon ngunit sa kondisyon na gagawin ito virtually.

Nanindigan si Dela Rosa na dapat na personal na dumalo sa pagdinig si Teves at hindi papayagan na virtual ang magiging presensya nito.  

“At the outset, the committee sent an invitation to Cong. Arnie Teves to attend our proceedings today. He accepted our invitation with a condition that he be allowed to attend virtually,” sabi ni Dela Rosa.

Ngunit unanimous ang naging desisyon ng mga miyembro ng komite na hindi payagan si Teves na dumalo sa virtual presence.

“There may be legal issues that will arise as to the taking of oath as a basic requirement in taking testimonies of any resource person or witness. The whereabouts of Cong. Teves is not known or definite, thus, jurisdiction as to his oath will be taken may be questioned legally. In relation to this, the committee should have jurisdiction over his person in instances where the committee will cite him in contempt or issue a subpoena duces tecum, absent that, the committee cannot implement such order or decision,” sabi ni Dela Rosa.

“The issue of observance of inter parliamentary courtesy was also mentioned with the members of this committee. Again, the members of this committee unanimously agree not to allow the virtual presence of Cong. Teves,” dagdag pa nito.

Samantala, kapwa nanawagan sina Senador Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. at Senador Risa Hontiveros kay Teves na bumalik na ng bansa dahil sa wala naman itong kasong kinakaharap sa kasalukuyan.

“Para kay Rep. Teves, sana ay umuwi ka na para harapin ang mga isyu at kasong ipininupukol sa iyo. Sir, sa ikapapanatag ng lahat, sana po ay magpakita ka dito sa ating hearing physically at hindi virtually,” ani Hontiveros.

Sa pagdinig, personal na dumalo sina Department of Justice (DOJ) Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla, Interior and Local Government Sec. Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr., Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman George Erwin Garcia gayundin si Pamplona, Negros Occidental Mayor Janice Degamo at dating Gov. Henry Pryde Teves.

Sa pagdinig sinasabing nasa Cambodia si Rep. Teves ngunit sinabi naman ni Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, base sa natanggap nitong impormasyon ay nasa South Korea ito.
