Naghain ng resolusyon si Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada na nagpapahayag ng pakikiramay ng Senado sa pagkamatay ng beteranong direktor ng pelikula at tagalikha ng komiks strip na si Carlo J. Caparas na pumanaw noong Mayo 25 sa edad na 80-anyos.
“His passing is a great loss for the Philippine comics and cinema industry, and the entire nation,” sabi ni Estrada sa inihain nitong Resolution No. 1045, na kumikilala kay Caparas sa naging kontribusyon nito sa Philippine cinema at literature.
Isang napakataas na Filipino comic book industry at itinuring na “Pinoy Komiks King,” si Caparas ay nag-iwan ng isang hindi maaalis na pamana noong kasagsagan ng komiks at sumulat ng mahigit 800 nobela at maikling kuwento, na marami sa mga ito ay ginawang blockbuster at kritikal na pinuri ang mga pelikula o sikat na serye sa telebisyon, gaya ng Pieta, Tasya Pantasya, Joaquin Bordado, Dugong Buhay, Angela Markado, Kamandag, at Lumuhod Ka sa Lupa.
“Caparas undeniably contributed to the enrichment and growth of the local entertainment scene and promotion of Philippine arts and culture. His impressive body of published works reflecting the Filipino way of life and aspirations as well as the rich tradition of Philippine folklore belongs to the artistic and literary heritage of the country,” sabi ni Estrada.
Noong 2007, ginawaran si Caparas ng Presidential Medal of Merit bilang isa sa mga “Legends of Philippine Komiks” ay tumanggap din ng “Gawad Komisyon sa Wika” mula sa National Commission for the Filipino Language noong Agosto 2006 sa pagiging master storyteller, a champion, and hero in the Filipino language; at ang prestihiyosong Gusi International Peace Award for Cinema and Filipino Literature noong 2006.
Nakatanggap din ito ng maraming pagkakakilanlan para sa kanyang trabaho sa silver screen, kabilang ang Filipino Academy of Movies Art and Sciences (FAMAS) Hall of Fame Award noong 2012 at Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula Sa Likod ng Kamera Award mula sa PMPC Star Awards for Movies noong 2010, bukod sa iba pa.
“While some of his works were set against the backdrop of fantasy and the supernatural, Caparas’ gripping storylines depict the struggles, perseverance, resilience, and indomitable spirit of the Filipino masses and the less fortunate, and their triumph against hardships, injustice, and oppression,” pahayag pa ni Estrada.
