Hiwalay na import authorization sa beverage industry iginiit: Para hindi maapektuhan ang presyo ng asukal

Dahil sa kontrobersyal na usapin sa sugar importation, nais ni San Jose del Monte City Rep. Florida Robes na nais nitong magkaroon ng hiwalay na importation orders sa beverage industry upang hindi  maapektuhan ang presyo ng asukal sa merkado.

Ito ang sinabi ni Robes, chairman ng House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability kasunod ng isinagawang pagdinig sa kontrobersyal na sugar importation sa Committee on Agriculture and Food na isinaalang-alang ang pag-import ng refined sugar para sa beverage industry na umabot sa mahigit 50 porsiyento ng kinokonsumo ng bansa.

“Since the beverage industry is consuming more sugar, it is also contributing to the consolidated demand for the country, hence the high cost of sugar in the retail market. Under the proposed scheme, the SRA will be mandated to issue separate importation orders for the beverage industry and for local consumers so that these will not affect inflation,” sabi pa ni Robes.

“We have to ensure that the country has enough supply of sugar in the market but this (importation) must protect sugar planters, millers and consumers as well to prevent any price spikes in the market. We also have to ensure that the measure should prevent smuggling in the process,” dagdag nito.

Sinabi pa nito na ang Kongreso ay maaaring gumawa ng batas na nagpapahintulot sa sugar import re-classification, o kung ang kasalikuyang bataw na bumuo sa Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) ay nagpapahintulot na muling ire-classify ang sugar importation upang hindi maapektuhan ang retail price.

Ayon pa kay Robes, naniniwala itong ang pagtaas ng preyo ng asukal sa lokal na merkado ay artipisyal lamang kung kaya’t nais itong siyasatin ng Kamara.

Ang nakatakdang pagdinig sa darating na Lunes ay maaaring ipagpaliban kung ang mga miyembro ng nasabing komite na magsagawa ng proper motu proprio inquiry upang masiguro na ang mga iimbitahang resource persons ay mapipilitang dumalo at makaiwas na masampahan ng kasong contempt.

Ang orihinal na pagdinig sa Huwebes ay ipiagpaliban sa araw ng Lunes, Agosto 22 upang payagan ang 7-day publication requirement sa panuntunan ng Good Government na ikonsiderang epektibo.

Sinabi pa ni Robes na inimbitahan na ng komite si SRA Administrator Herminigildo Serafica at Board Member Roland Beltran gayundin si DA Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian, ang tatlong nagbitiw sa kanilang posisyon dahil sa paglagda sa  SO4 at si dating DA Sec. William Dar.
