DOT natuwa sa desisyon ng IATF

Nagpahayag ng pagkagalak si Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco sa desisyon ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) na irekomenda kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang opsyonal na pagsusuot ng face masks sa mga open spaces, o mga non-crowded outdoor areas.

 Sinabi ni Frasco, na mahalaga na sumabay ang national government sa global practices, at sa ASEAN neighbors sa usapin ng entry processes at health and safety protocols upang makabangon na ang turismo sa bansa.

“With the recent improvement of the global tourism landscape as a result of immunization, countries around the world have been instituting various measures such as the reopening of international borders, and relaxation of health and safety protocols and requirements, resulting in an immediate positive economic impact of these countries and faster recovery of their respective portfolios,” sabi pa ni Frasco.

Sinabi pa ng tourism chief na base sa comparative analysis sa mask mandates, ang COVID-19 incidence at ang  tourist arrivals sa Top 5 ASEAN countries na Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, atd Indonesia, ay mas liberal na sa pagsusuot ng face mask at hindi na nakakaapekto sa pagtaas na kaso ng COVID-19.

Dagdag pa ng kalihim, maliban sa Singapore, iba pang bansa sa  ASEAN ay nagpakit ang pagdami ng bilang ng tourist arrivals.

“There seems to be no direct correlation between the lifting of mask mandates and the increase in COVID-19 cases, only that the lifting of the mask mandates has served to more than double the tourist arrivals in these countries,” ayon pa kay Frasco.

Sinabi pa ng Tourism secretary maliban sa ASEAN countries, ang pangunahing merkado ng Pilipinas sa Asya at iba pang bahagi ng mundo ay nagpatupad na rin ng liberalize mask mandates tulad ng  Japan, South Korea, at Hong Kong.

Gayundin aniya sa ibang bansa sa Western Hemisphere, nagsimula na ring alisin ang pagsusuot ng face mask noon pang 2021 kasama na ang United Kingdom noong Abril 2021, ang buong European Union (EU) noong Mayo 2021, at ang United States of America (USA) noong Hunyo 2021.
