Inaasahan nang mas mapoprotektahan ang mga residente sa baybaying komunidad sa Manapla, Negros Occidental kasunod ng pagtatapos sa bagong flood control project na ginawa ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Ayon kay DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, ang bagong istruktura sa Barangay Punta Mesa na makakaiwas sa pagguhon ng lupa sa kahabaan ng river banks at lansangan sa coastal barangay at kalapit lugar nito.
“The revetment wall will safeguard the lives, properties, and livelihoods of approximately 8,000 residents which are surrounded by different bodies of water including the Guimaras Strait,” sabi ni Director Bueno.
Isinagawa ng DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, ang saklaw ng mga gawa sa P44.9 milyong revetment wall project ay kinabibilangan ng pagtatayo ng 1.16-kilometro, 3-meter high na stone masonry structure sa kahabaan ng Dapdap River.
“The completion of this project is a testament to our commitment to ensure that people who live near rivers, creeks, and other bodies of water are protected from the effects of potential flooding, erosion or water overflow,” dagdag pa ng opisyal.
