Pagbisita ni US VP Harris senyales sa China — solon

Iginiit ng Isang kongresista na ang pagbisita ni US Vice President Kamala Harris ay nagpapadala ng malinaw na senyales sa China na sinusuportahan ng US ang Pilipinas sa alitan sa teritoryo nito sa Beijing.

Sinabi ni Cayagan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez na ang pagbisita ni Harris ay malinaw na senyales na suportado ng US ang Pilipinas.

“We welcome Vice President Kamala Harris. We thank the United States for supporting our sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in accordance with the International Arbitral Award in July 2016,” aniya.

Sinabi nito na bago dumating si Harris sa Maynila, sinabi ng isang opisyal ng US na ang pagbisita ay magpapakita ng pangako ng administrasyong Biden na manindigan kasama ang Pilipinas sa pagtataguyod ng mga alituntunin na nakabatay sa international maritime order sa South China Sea, pagsuporta sa maritime livelihoods at pagkontra sa ilegal at hindi naiulat na pangingisda.

“That is consistent with the aspiration of President Marcos to push for a code of conduct in the South China Sea, including the West Philippine Sea, which China should respect and abide by,” dagdag nito.

Si Harris ang pinakamataas na US official na bumisita sa Pilipinas at nakatakdang bumisita sa Palawan upang makipag-ugnayan sa mga residente at opisyal ng lokal na pamahalaan.

Magugunitang una nang bumisita sa bansa si State Secretary Anthony Blinken noong Agosto kung saan binanggit nito ang 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty ng Pilipinas at US na magagamit sa sandaling atakehin ang eroplano o barko ng Pilipinas sa South China Sea.

“An armed attack on Philippine armed forces, public vessels and aircraft will invoke the US mutual defense commitments under that treaty. The Philippines is an irreplaceable friend, partner and ally to the United States,” sabi nito.

Binanggit naman ni Rodriguez na suportado nito ang panawagan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos na code of conduct sa South China Sea.

“A code of conduct is the way to go forward to peacefully and amicably resolve territorial disputes among countries in the region,” ayon sa kongresista.
