Relasyon ng US at Pilipinas pinatunayan ng pagbisita ni US Vice President Harris — Speaker Romualdez

Ikinagalak ni House Speaker Martin G. Romualdez ang pagbisita ni US Vice President Kamala Harris sa bansa at magsisilbi itong susi sa matagal nang alyansa sa seguridad at relasyong pang-ekonomiya sa pagitan ng United States (US) at Pilipinas.

Si Harris, kasama ang kanyang asawa, at ang abogadong si Doug Emhoff, ay lumapag sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) dakong alas-6:55 ng Linggo ng Gabi sakay ng Air Force 2 aircraft.

“The visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris is a welcome development as it would serve to reinforce the enduring alliance, partnership, and friendship between the Philippines and the United States,” sabi ni Romualdez.

Habang si Romualdez ay kabilang sa mga opisyal ng gobyerno ng Pilipinas na sumalubong kay Harris nang dumating sa Malacañang para sa kanyang pakikipagpulong kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. ngayong araw ng Lunes.

Kabilang sa iba pa, sinabi nito na ang pagpupulong nina Harris at Pangulong Marcos ay maaaring mapahusay ang bilateral alliance ng PH-US.

“I am confident that President Marcos will assess any possible new security arrangements with Washington with our national interest as the paramount consideration and consistent with his foreign policy of being ‘friend to all and enemy to none,” ayon kay Romualdez.

“The discussions between President Marcos and Vice President Harris could also help advance our continuing efforts to modernize our Armed Forces,” dagdag pa ni Romualdez.

Maliban sa pagtutulungan sa depensa at seguridad, sinabi ni Romualdez na ang pagbisita ni Harris ay isang magandang pahiwatig para sa economic at trade partnership ng dalawang bansa.

Sa parehong pahayag mula sa White House, sinabi ng US na nakatuon ito sa pagpapalakas ng relasyon sa ekonomiya at pamumuhunan nito sa Pilipinas.

Kabilang din sa iba pang binanggit ni Harris ay maglulunsad ng mga hakbangin sa iba’t ibang lugar, kabilang ang climate action at energy security, food security, at digitalization, at iba pa.

Binanggit ni Romualdez na ang mga hakbanging ito ay tumutukoy sa parehong kritikal na isyu ng pandaigdigang pag-aalala na binanggit ni Pangulong Marcos sa kanyang paglahok sa Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit sa Bangkok, Thailand.

“The APEC leaders and President Marcos share the common view that they must put top priority in addressing these global problems. I believe it would not be difficult for the President and Vice President Harris to agree on areas of cooperation on these matters,” ani Romualdez.
