Nakatakdang magpatupad ng travel restrictions ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa lahat ng paliparan at pantalan sa mga pasahero na manggagaling sa bansang China.
Ang pahayag ay kasunod ng mga ulat na muling pagtaas ng kaso ng Covid-19 sa China, na nag-udyok sa bansa na muling isaalang-alang ang pagpapatupad ng mga pagbabawal sa paglalakbay.
“We take the cue from the DOH, the IATF, and the Office of the President on implementing travel restrictions,” sabi ni BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
“While we have not received any directive yet about it, we are ready at any time to implement any such measures that the government deems appropriate to prevent another surge in the Philippines,” dagdag pa nito.
Matatandaang sa kasagsagan ng pandemya, nagpatupad ang BI ng country-specific travel bans para maiwasan ang pagpasok ng ilang variant ng Covid-19.
Iniulat din na noong 2022 ay umabot lamang sa 30,002 Chinese tourists ang dumating sa bansa.
“Chinese nationals used to take the second highest spot in the number of arrivals in the country, next to South Koreans. But during the pandemic, due to travel bans both here and in their home country, the number has drastically dropped,” pahayag pa nito.
Ang bilang ay 0.48% lamang ng kabuuang naitalang recorded arrivals ng BI na mahigit 6.1 milyong biyahero noong 2022.
