Hiniling ni House Ways and Means chair at Albay Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) na isama ang P600-700 milyon na alokasyon para sa paglilipat ng mga tore ng National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) upang payagan ang Bicol International Airport (BIA) na palawakin ang mga runway nito upang mapaunlakan ang mga international flights.
Ginawa ni Salceda ang pormal na kahilingan kasunod ng pagpupulong noong nakalipas na Pebrero 7 sa pagitan nito at ng transport officials sa kalagayan ng international flights mula sa BIA.
“During this representation’s February 7 meeting with the honorable Secretary, the CAAP emphasized the need to relocate towers of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines that stand in the way of runway expansion to allow for international flights in the Bicol International Airport,” sa sulat ni Salceda kay DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista.
“In view of this and the ongoing budget call, may I urgently request that the Department of Transportation include the estimated P600-700 million required to complete the relocation in its budget request for the National Expenditure Plan (NEP),” dagdag pa nito.
“This representation will fully endorse such a request by the DOTr with the economic managers and support its adoption by the House leadership in the House General Appropriations Bill (HGAB),” pagtitiyak ni Salceda sa transport officials.
Inihayag ni Salceda na ang dahilan kung bakit hindi ma-accommodate ang mga international flight sa kasalukuyan ay dahil sa high tension wire kung saan maikli ang runway.
Nais ng Philippine Airlines na ilipat ang ilang flight ng OWWA sa panahon ng pandemya sa BIA ngunit hindi magawa dahil sa parehong paghihigpit.
Ang BIA ay nakikita bilang ang pinaka-magandang gateway sa bansa, at dapat na gamitin ng mga international flight ngayong taon kung hindi dahil sa teknikal na usapin.
