Nagpahayag ng pagkadismaya si House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa mga ulat ng umano’y pagkakasangkot ng dalawang heneral ng pulisya at iba pang opisyal ng Philippine National Police (PNP) sa tangkang pagtakpan ang mga iregularidad sa pagkakasamsam ng humigit-kumulang P6.7 bilyong halaga ng shabu noong 2022.
“I am dismayed and saddened to learn that some of those accused of alleged involvement are members of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, the very same people tasked to go after peddlers of illegal drugs,” sabi ni Romualdez.
Giit nito, dapat na tiyakin ng PNP ang masusing imbestigasyon dito at kung kinakailangan ay magkaroon ng reorganisasyon sa drug enforcement unit.
“While an in-depth investigation to ascertain the truth is being undertaken, measures to reorganize the police force’s drug unit should be implemented,” dagdag nito.
Magugunitang sa ginanap na press conference nitong Lunes, sinabi ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos, tinukoy nito ang dalawang heneral ng pulisya na sina Police Lt. Gen. Benjamin Santos at Brig. Gen. Narciso Domingo, na-relieve na hepe ng PDEG – at iba pang matataas na opisyal ng pulisya na umano’y sangkot sa pagtatakip ng pag-aresto kay Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr. dahil sa pagkakasamsam ng 990 kilo ng shabu na nagkakahalaga ng P6.7 bilyon sa Tondo, Maynila noong Oktubre ng nakaraang taon.
Dahil dito nakatakdang magsagawa ng imbestigasyon ang Senado sa darating na Abril 17 sa mga alegasyon ni Abalos.
Habang sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ay nanawagan si House Committee on Dangerous Drugs Rep. Robert Ace Barbers nanawagan sa mga asset ng pulisya na lumapit at magbigay ng liwanag sa usapin.
“The investigation into these allegations must be swift and thorough. Let the ax fall where it must because police involvement in this alleged cover-up, especially anti-drug operatives, cannot and should not be tolerated,” ani Romualdez.
“It would also be ideal to hear the statement of PNP Chief Gen. Azurin on the matter. Let us wait for official announcements before jumping to conclusions,” ayon pa sa lider ng Kamara.
