Uunahin ng bagong liderato ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) ang pagsasailalim sa modernisasyon ng ahensya.
Ito ang sinabi ni BI Commissioner Norman G. Tansingco, matapos manumpa kay Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla na nangakong ipatutupad nito ang pagreporma sa BI sa lalong madaling panahon.
“We are looking at ways to modernize the bureau, both in terms of technologies and of services,” sabi ni Tansingco, na in-apppoint ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Nabatid na matapos manumpa bilang bagong commissioner ng BI, agad na nagsagawa ng ocular inspections sa main office ng BI sa Intramuos, Manila si Tansingco at sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Si Tansingco na kauna-unahang commissioner ng BI, ay nanggaling mula sa ibabang ranggo kung saan mula noong 2007 hanggang 2017, ay humawak na ito ng ibang mahahalagang posisyon kabilang ang pagiging chief of staff at technical assistant ng Office of the Commissioner at naging abogado ng BI Board of Special Inquiry.
Nagtapos ito bilang certified public accountant bago naging abogado nang pumasa sa Philippine Bar noong 1991.
“We are looking into ways of modernizing the Bureau through e-services and man-less transactions. Not only will this up the level of the agency, but it will also serve as a major deterrent for illicit activities by removing opportunities for corruption,” sabi ni Tansingco.
“We will also be pushing for the new immigration law that will update the 82-year-old Philippine immigration act to ensure that we adapt to modern times,” dagdag pa nito.
