Suporta ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez ang rekomendasyon ng National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. na magdeklara ng national state of calamity dahil sa epekto, pinsala at inaasahang epekto ng severe tropical storm Paeng.
Ayon kay Romualdez, nakarating na sa opisina nito na nagpapahiwatig na halos lahat ng mga rehiyon sa bansa ay naapektuhan ng STS Paeng, na sumira sa mga tulay, kalsada at pangunahing imprastraktura at nagdulot ng pinsala sa buhay at ari-arian.
“I have requested my fellow members of the House of Representatives to help the executive departments and agencies assess the damage caused by the STS Paeng and assist in relief operations in their respective districts,” sabi nito.
“I have also asked the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Zaldy Co, to compile the damage assessment from House Members and executive offices so that they may aid us in reviewing possible adjustments in budget allocation for repair and rehabilitation of affected areas under the proposed 2023 General Appropriations Act,” dagdag nito.
Sa kasalukuyan umano ay nakasentro sa relief operations ang gobyerno upang maibsan ang paghihirap ng mga apektadong pamilya at indibiduwal at makapaghatid ng tulong sa lalong madaling panahon sa mga nangangailangan.
Nabatid na naglunsad na ng relief drive at mga operasyon sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso upang matulungan ang pamahalaan na matiyak ang mga mapagkukunang kailangan sa mga apektadong komunidad.
“The House of Representatives will also use its power over the purse to see to it that rehabilitation of affected communities will proceed unhampered as soon as the relief stage is completed,” ayon pa kay Romualdez.
“Asahan po ninyo na gagawin namin ang lahat para makabangon muli ang ang mga kababayan natin mula sa panibagong hamong ito na hinaharap natin ngayon,” paniniyak pa ng lider ng Kamara.
