Ipinarating ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez sa mga negosyanteng gutom sa tubo na nagmamanipula o nag-iimbak ng suplay at mga presyo ng mga produktong pang-agrikultura tulad ng sibuyas na magdahan-dahan sa kasakiman o kung hindi ay magdusa sa malalang kahihinatnan.
Ang pahayag ni Romualdez ay matapos na makipag-ugnayan ito sa Department of Agriculture (DA) at Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) kung saan ipinanawagan nito na magpatupad ng all-out war laban sa mga abusado at mapagsamantalang negosyante na bumibiktima sa mga mamimili.
“We’ll be working closely with the Executive, with the Department of Agriculture, to make sure these hoarders and all these foolish activities of traders are stopped,” sabi ni Romualdez.
“My message is: moderate your greed, release the supply of these basic commodities –these vegetables, whether they be onion, garlic. Moderate your greed, give us fair prices, if not, your days are numbered, we’re going after all of you,” dagdag pa nito.
Sa isang hiwalay na pahayag na inilabas ilang sandali matapos ang paglagda sa isang Memorandum of Agreement sa pagitan ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso at Ateneo de Manila University para sa isang Research Partnership Project, sinabi ni Romualdez na inatasan na nito ang House Committee on Agriculture chairman at Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga na alamin ang ugat nito.
“We’d like to tell the public that the House of Representatives will use all its resources, and employ all its efforts to ensure that we bring back stable prices and stable supply of these basic commodities,” ayon pa sa lider ng Kamara.
Ayon pa kay Romualdez, walang dahilan para umangat ang presyo ng mga bilihin tulad ng sibuyas at bawang dahil may sapat na suplay ang mga magsasaka batay sa impormasyong nakarating sa Kamara.
“It only points out to one thing, there is hoarding, there is price manipulation. So we are warning those who are behind these nefarious activities—that your days are numbered, the House will be going after you,” ayon pa kay Romualdez.
“So stop this foolishness, bring back the supply, stabilize it, work with us. And if not, you’re against us—your days are numbered,” dagdag nito.
Sa pagpupulong nitong Martes, sinabi ni Romualdez sa mga opisyal ng DA at DTI na pangalanan ang mga mangangalakal na pinaghihinalaang nagmamanipula sa suplay at presyo ng sibuyas, bawang, at iba pang mga produktong pang-agrikultura upang maimbitahan ng Kamara sa nalalapit na imbestigasyon ng Kongreso na isasagawa ng Committee on Agriculture.
“If you know who these people are, let us know. We will invite all of them, if not, have the authorities arrest them,” aniya pa.
