Sinopla ng isang kongresista ang Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) na hindi dapat nagsasalita para sa mga micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) para harangin ang P750 wage hike.
Ayon kay Assistant Minority Leader at Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas hindi maaaring magsalita ang ECOP para sa mga MSMEs sa paghadlang sa P750 wage hike dahil kumakatawan ito sa mga malalaking korporasyon na karamihan ay nabibilang sa ang nangungunang 1,000 korporasyon.
“The top 1,000 corporations which ECOP and other business chambers represent can fully shoulder the P750 wage increase from their superprofits. In fact, profits of top 1,000 firms jumped by 17.5% in 2021, during the height of the pandemic, when workers had to make do with crumbs,” sabi ni Brosas.
“Dapat tigilan na ng ECOP ang pag-aastang spokesperson at tagapagtanggol ng MSMEs dahil sa akwal ay interes ng malalaking negosyo sa bansa ang kinakatawan nito,” giit pa nito.
Sinabi ni Gabriela solon na ang malalaking negosyo ay nakikinabang din mula sa buwis sa pagpapatupad ng CREATE Law, na pinapagana ang mga ito sa pagbabawas sa panukalang pagtaas ng sahod.
Ipinaliwanag pa ng mambabatas na sa ilalim ng House Bill 7568, ang wage subsidies ay ipagkakaloob sa mga micro and small enterprises at maliliit na landowners na kumukuha ng manggagawa sa agrikultura upang tulungan silang pondohan ang iminungkahing wage hike.
“Funding for wage subsidies can be sourced from redundant infrastructure projects, and from the collection of wealth tax on the assets of top Filipino billionaires. We can also include allocations for wage subsidies in the unprogrammed funds,” sabi ni Brosas.
“To illustrate, there is a P807.16-billion Unprogrammed Funds under the 2023 budget for various programs covering infrastructure projects, AFP modernization and the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). Gamitin na lang ito para subsidyohan ang sahod ng mga manggagawa sa MSMEs,” dagdag nito.
