Binalaan ni House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez na ipapakulong ang sinumang magsasabi ng kasinungalingan sa pagdinig muli ng House Committee on Agriculture and Food sa pagtatago ng produktong pang-agrikultura na nakikitang nag-udyok sa pagtaas ng presyo ng sibuyas at iba pang mga produkto.
Ito ang babala ni Romualdez sa pagsasabing seryoso ang mga mambabatas na ilantad ang mga tiwaling financiers at mangangalakal sa likod ng kartel ng sibuyas at gulay sa mga pagdinig ng Kamara.
Inihalimbawa pa nito ang nangyari sa tatlong opisyal ng Argo International Forwarders Inc. na pinakulong sa Kamara matapos na tumangging makipagtulungan sa imbestigasyon hinggil sa pangho-hoard ng mga produktong pagkain ng mga tiwaling traders
“I cannot stress enough for these resource persons the importance of cooperating with the committee: lie to lawmakers and you will all find yourselves in jail,” banta pa ni Romualdez, na nagsabing ang misyon ng mga mambabatas ay mapababa ang presyo ng sibuyas at mawasak ang vegetable cartel.
“We need to lower the prices of onions and decimate the cartel the soonest possible time. And I guarantee the imprisonment of those exploitative and abusive individuals and business owners behind the cartel. Our constituents need an immediate reprieve from the high prices of agricultural goods,” dagdag pa nito.
Binalaan din ni Romualdez ang mga kasabwat ng onion cartel, lalo na kung ito ay mula sa gobyerno.
“The committee will not spare anyone who helped these unscrupulous individuals, even those from the government. You are equally guilty of causing the suffering of the Filipino people,” giit pa ni Speaker Romualdez.
Sa pagtugon sa mga pahayag nina Quezon Rep. Mark Enverga, ang chairman ng komite at SAGIP party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, sinabi ng Speaker na inaasahan nito ang kooperasyon nina Argo President at General Manager Efren Zoleta Jr., Argo Operations Manager John Patrick Sevilla, at kanilang legal counsel na si Jan Ryan Cruz sa pagtukoy ang mga hoarders.
“Let your detention by the committee be a lesson: if you will not tell us the truth, we will send you to jail,” ayon pa sa lider ng Kamara.
