Pormal nang nagbitiw bilang kinatawan ng Valenzuela City Rep. Rex Gatchalian kasunod ng paghirang dito bilang bagong kalihim ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Sa sulat na ipinadala ni Gatchalian kay House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, na may petsang February 1, sinabi nitong nagbibitiw na itong miyembro ng Kamara at chairman ng Committee on Local Government epektibo noong Enero 31, 2023 .
“Please accept this letter as my official resignation as Representative of the 1st District of Valenzuela City and as chairman of the Committee on Local Government effective January 31, 2023,” bahagi ng liham ni Gatchalian.
“It was an honor and privilege to have serve as member of the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress, and as Chairman of the Committee on Local Government under your able leadership. I look forward to continuing to work with you and our other colleagues for the development of our beloved nation,” dagdag pa nito.
Una nang personal na humarap kay Romualdez si Gatchalian matapos na mahirang na kalihim ng DSWD upang magpasalamat sa magandang pamumuno ng una sa Kamara.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na pansamantalang magtatalaga ng caretaker sa Valenzuela City base sa pakikipag-ugnayan kay Gatchalian at sa political party nitong Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
Kasunod nito ay maglalabas ang Kamara ng Declaration of Vacancy sa nasabing lungsod bago magpapatawag ng special elections para magkaroon ng bagong kinatawan ang Valenzuela City sa Kamara.
